My AI Lawyer, enabled by ViaMedia, is rolling out AI-powered legal advice across mobile networks in South Africa. Cell C subscribers can currently access AI-powered legal guidance from My AI Lawyer for just R5, with the cost deducted directly from their airtime. This makes affordable legal guidance easier to access, particularly for people who do not have a debit or credit card.
The availability comes as strong adoption of My AI Lawyer shows high demand for affordable, always-available legal guidance in South Africa. Since launch, the platform has generated around 119,000 platform impressions, helped more than 30,000 users, completed 9,200 AI legal advice sessions, and answered some 150,000 legal questions.
Eligible subscribers can activate the service through the content platform, with a secure double opt-in process to ensure that customers consent before the daily subscription is deducted from their airtime. Once subscribed, customers can chat with My AI Lawyer via WhatsApp for fast, convenient legal guidance whenever they need it.
Subscribers also receive access to a secure online legal dashboard where they can:
Access to justice for all
My AI Lawyer can help with a range of everyday legal matters, including workplace disputes, consumer rights, family law, landlord and tenant issues, contracts and debt. Available 24 hours a day, it empowers people to better understand their rights before making important decisions or responding to legal challenges.
"Access to justice should not be reserved for people who can afford hourly legal fees or have access to traditional payment methods,” says Darren Cohen, Head of Distribution & Marketing at My AI Lawyer. “By making My AI Lawyer available through airtime, we are making practical legal guidance accessible to millions of South Africans.”
The service is enabled by ViaMedia, one of South Africa’s leading mobile content and carrier billing specialists. Matthew Roetz, CEO of ViaMedia, says the offering demonstrates how carrier billing can be used to deliver services that create meaningful social impact.
“Carrier billing makes digital services more accessible to millions of South Africans. By allowing customers to subscribe using airtime, we are helping remove payment barriers and making an important service such as legal guidance available to far more people.”
Digital when you want it, human when you need it
This launch forms part of My AI Lawyer’s strategy to make affordable legal guidance available through the platforms people already use every day, including mobile networks, financial institutions, retailers, employers and other consumer ecosystems. The vision is to make trusted legal guidance as accessible as mobile connectivity.
“We are using technology to make legal support more inclusive, more accessible and available exactly when people need it,” says Cohen. “Our AI platform is available 24 hours a day for immediate legal guidance, but users also have the reassurance that they can get help from our human legal professionals when they need additional support.”
